The I Wonder Why Series is a set of books designed to answer the questions most young children have when first encountering the world of information and sparking more interest in those subjects. In this case, the questions are about geography and social studies and answer questions regarding customs, modes of transportation and industry, types of food, art, and fashion from nations across the world.
I learned a few facts from this book. For example, did you know…
– That everyone in China celebrates their birthdays at the same time?
– That there is a place in New Zealand named (And one in France named simply ‘Y’?)
– That the Maori welcome guests by staring at them and sticking out their tongues?
– That there’s a Canadian wheat field that’s double the size of San Marino, a European country?
As should be expected, some of the ideas and beliefs that fuel the customs and behaviors of different countries are mentioned. (Leprachauns, healing powers, etc.) Also, the Stone Age is referenced.
